Grad Student Processes
On this page you can find information about graduate student processes and guidelines at the University of Windsor
Course Enrollment Requirements
Mechanical MASc and PhD students with mechanical or similar background must completed 4 graduate level “MECH” courses, however, they can take ONE graduate level course outside of their degree program if approved by their supervisor, Graduate coordinator and the Faculty of Graduate Studies, prior to registering. If the student's background is not mechanical or similar degree program, they must take 2-3 additional undergraduate courses during during their graduate studies that will be determined by the graduate studies and included in their letter of admission.
You must also be registered in every semester and complete the Graduate Seminar which requires you to register every semester until you log 36 hours and give one presentation for MASc and 2 presentations for PhD.
Thesis, that you must be registered in every semester you are working on your thesis until you graduate.
Course Substitution Requirements
if you want to take a course outside of your degree program (any course that does not begin with your degree prefix, ie. “MECH”, “MATL” or “INDE”) you will need to have it approved by your supervisor, Graduate Coordinator and Graduate Studies in order to have it count as one of the four graduate courses required for your degree completion. You can only take ONE course outside of your degree program.
This is done in two parts:
Approval to have a course counted: You must complete a Course Substitution form (which can be found on the Graduate Studies website-current students – student forms – enrolment, registration), explaining why you would like to take this course, and have it signed by your Supervisor and the Graduate Coordinator. Once the form is complete and signed by all you would then upload it into a Service Request which can be found under the RESEARCH TRACKING tile in Uwinsite Student.
Registration: Once you receive approval to take the course you can register in the course through the normal means. If you are unable to register as normal you may need to complete a course add form which you will need to have the instructor sign and submit to me for the Coordinator’s signature and processing
Please note, you are welcome to take additional courses outside of your degree they just won’t count as one of the four required courses.
