Introduction
If you are looking to join Dr. Rahimi's lab, the following expectations are in place for admission and graduation. Please read carefully and if you have any questions please feel free to bring it to Dr. Rahimi's attention using his contact information.
A budget breakdown can be found on the budget page to help you determine your expenses and income during your studies, this can help you plan for your education period at this university. Should there be questions about this breakdown, feel free to ask.
Last but not least, I will be there to support you through this process and will do my best to help you achieve your full potential. This comes naturally that your success translates into mine and the lab’s and will result in more funding, exciting projects, and credibility.

Common Requirements
It is also expected that you have a strong background and potential to further this knowledge in the following areas depending on the project you will be working on:
Mathematics (algebra, calculus, etc.)
Dynamics (ability to understand the equation of motion, derive them, use them to simulate the behaviour of a system under study)
Control (ability to design a control system for the desired performance under given restrictions for a system of choice to behave accordingly)
Statistics and probability (ability to understand statistical terms, applications, derivations and their use-cases in engineering)
Programming (ability to code, minimally in MATLAB, and using Simulink to model system behaviour, using Python and R is also desired if working on data-driven methods)
The following skills are a plus
Familiarity with estimation theory and ability to do state/parameter estimation using Kalman filters, Particle filters, etc.
Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and ability to do data pre-processing, model fitting, output evaluation, performance metrics analysis, and parameter tuning
PDF (Post-Doctoral Fellow)
As a post-doctoral fellow candidate, you are expected to have demonstrated exceptional performance in your master’s and doctoral studies and have solid research-related activities background including conference papers, journal papers, and other channels of knowledge dissemination.
In order to complete your term, you are expected to:
Publish at least 2+ peer-reviewed conference papers per year
Publish at least 2+ peer-reviewed journals (choice by discussion) per year
Help with grant writing, graduate student supervision, teaching, etc.
PhD (Doctoral of Philosophy)
As a doctoral of philosophy candidate, you are expected to have demonstrated exceptional performance in your undergraduate and master’s studies and have participated in research-related activities whether participating in conferences, doing research assistantship or collaboration on manuscript preparation, etc.
In order to complete your term, you are expected to:
Participate in research-related events and have at least 3+ peer-reviewed conference paper
Work on manuscript preparation to submit for 3+ peer-reviewed journals (choice by discussion)
Write a thesis that meets the requirements by the University’s graduate program and committee members
MASc (Master of Applied Science)
As a master of applied science candidate, you are expected to have demonstrated exceptional performance (at least) in the last two years of your study and have participated in research-related activities whether participating in conferences, doing research assistantship or collaboration on manuscript preparation, etc.
In order to complete your term, you are expected to:
Participate in research-related events and have at least 1+ peer-reviewed conference paper
Work on manuscript preparation to submit for 1+ peer-reviewed journals (choice by discussion)
Write a thesis that meets the requirements by the University’s graduate program and committee members
BSc (Undergraduate Students)
As an undergraduate candidate, you are expected to have demonstrated exceptional performance (at least) in the last two years of your study and have participated in research-related activities, whether participating in conferences, doing research assistantship or collaboration on manuscript preparation, etc.
In order to complete your term, you are expected to:
Participate in research-related events and have at least 1 peer-reviewed conference paper
Work on manuscript preparation to submit for a peer-reviewed journal (choice by discussion) is a plus

Notes
Entrance Scholarship is limited for international students and must meet minimum GPA requirements
Graduate assistant positions are based on availability and you get a maximum number of them during your time in the program. For MASc up to 4-5 and for PhDs up to 9-10. Each graduate assistant position offers up to more than $6,000 per term.
